Leaving Singapore and Kia Ora

I never thought I would be saying this but leaving Singapore really made us sad. We loved our time here, everything about it and maybe it is just as Joe said the other day „Once it started you know it is passing“.

Our flight did not leave until the evening so after our daily breakfast outside we walked along Orchard Road a little and spent some more time at the pool before we took the metro to the airport.

A journey through Asia and meeting monkeys

Today we visited both India and China. Singapore’s little India is a very authentic experience. Strolling through the streets you really do feel as if you were in India (except for the fact that it is not quite as crowded neither is the traffic as bad). Different smells coming from the many restaurants that serve Indian dishes and colorful buildings complete this part of the city.

We went to see Chinatown right after we did Little India – again a genuine place. In the midst of this crowded, hot and impressive day we also decided to convert Levi’s stroller (or pram as they say here) to a more breathable and UV safe version. Don’t ask why we didn’t do this at home…

In the late afternoon when the clouds were moving away and the sun was at its best (which is rare in Singapore) we went to the Gardens by the Bay. It was simply gorgeous. The lush green trees and the sun that was slowly setting made it a magical end of the day.

A birthday in Singapore

For some reason we never take a taxi. We thought we would change that now that we are traveling with Levi but no – still taking the public transportation from the airport to the city and walking from the closest MRT Station to the hotel, even after a long flight through the night. We both agree that it is part of the adventure. It does save a whole lot of money too I have to admit.

Since it was my birthday the day after we arrived we had a little celebration with balloons, streamers and presents in the morning. It was really sweet to see Levi helping me unwrapping my gifts. And then – after 31 years – I could FINALLY wear a summer dress on February 24th. That fact alone made me the happiest girl ever.

The adventure begins

We packed our backpacks and cleaned up our apartment the entire day. It ended up being quite stressful – just like I expected it to be. In the end we got everything packed though and so far it does not seem as if we forgot anything.

We are traveling with 2 large backpacks and two small carry on backpacks. We also take a stroller and one small carry on suitcase. We are expecting cooler weather in New Zealand and warmer temperatures in Australia and Singapore so we packed a mix of clothes and tons of technical equipment for our camera, GoPro, computer and stuff. We are also bringing along Levi’s carrier and his car seat (since he has his own seat on the plane and we will need it in New Zealand and Australia anyway).

My parents took us to the airport and waved us goodbye at security. This is where our adventure finally started.
