May 6, 2018 – Cairns, Australia
After all the struggle we had we just wanted to leave Townsville as fast as possible. We decided to drive further north and stayed at one of the most picturesque campgrounds.
It was right by the ocean and there was nothing but pineapple fields. palm trees, a handful of other people and supposedly crocodiles (which luckily we did not see). We jumped on a giant jumping pillow while the sun was setting behind us and swam all alone in the pool the next morning. Just what we needed!
On our way up to Cairns we visited the Mamu Tropical Skywalk and the Millaa Millaa waterfalls. Both are nice but not overly exciting. You do get great views of the rainforest though. We also tried to spot tree kangaroos that are famous for this area but for the first time ever during our „animal spotting adventures“ we were unsuccessful. No tree kangaroos for us.
And then we reached Cairns and just like that we were at the final stop of our road trip and it felt terrible. Luckily we had planned to stay in Cairns for a couple of days so keep posted.
