A birthday in Singapore

For some reason we never take a taxi. We thought we would change that now that we are traveling with Levi but no – still taking the public transportation from the airport to the city and walking from the closest MRT Station to the hotel, even after a long flight through the night. We both agree that it is part of the adventure. It does save a whole lot of money too I have to admit.

Since it was my birthday the day after we arrived we had a little celebration with balloons, streamers and presents in the morning. It was really sweet to see Levi helping me unwrapping my gifts. And then – after 31 years – I could FINALLY wear a summer dress on February 24th. That fact alone made me the happiest girl ever.

We strolled along Orchard Road, Merlion Park and the Marina area. We had a pink matcha cherry blossom cake at Starbucks with a view of the impressive Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Levi also enjoyed his very first Starbucks beverage – plain water (he loved it). Later that day we sat underneath the Supertrees at the Gardens by the Bay and all three of us watched in awe as the illumination and music performance began. I had everything I could have asked for on my special day (except for a birthday candle since you are not allowed to import lighters into Singapore – bummer).

The next day we hiked along the Southern Ridges. I had read that those were stroller friendly yet what I had not read was the fact that the first part of the trail is not. As a matter of fact it is not accessible at all. To get up to Mount Faber via the Marang trail you have to climb plenty of stairs through a lush rainforest. It is quite impressive though and since we did not want to miss it I carried Levi and Joe carried our stroller all the way up the mountain. Mission accomplished. We had 31Degrees Celsius by the way so a dip in the pool was overdue by the time we got back to the hotel.

Later that day we went to see the light, music and water show right in front of the Shoppes of Marina Bay Sands. It was such a mild and relaxing evening and we loved just being there. We took some pictures while goofing around with Levi right on the boardwalk by the Bay and had some Italian ice cream while he was sleeping afterwards.
